The Indian women hockey team has done the country proud by making a historic maiden entry into the Olympic semi-finals by defeating World no 2 team and three-time champions Australia in the quarter-finals with a tally of 1-0. The entire team is on cloud 9.
Rani Rampal and her team will now face Argentina in the semi-finals on Wednesday. Skipper Rani Rampal is extremely proud of her team’s performance.

The odds were totally against India as they faced Australia, a mighty unbeaten opponent. But the Indian women were determined to prove their mettle. Gurjit Kaur rose to the occasion and converted India’s lone penalty corner into a goal in the 22nd minute of the game and took the Aussies by surprise. India managed to save 8 penalty corners in their historic win.
India’s best performance in hockey before this was in the 1980 Olympics at Moscow when they finished 4th out of six teams.
