The judge said that the citizens are the conscience-keepers of the government in any democratic nation

The police had arrested Disha Ravi from her residence in Bengaluru based on allegations that she was responsible for instigating violence in Delhi on January 26th 2021 and that she is associated with Khalistan groups working against the country. Nikhita Jacob and Shantanu are other activists against whom non bailable warrants were issued. There was widespread protests across the country against the arrest.  The Delhi court has now granted bail to the Disha Ravi citing that the evidence was ‘scanty and sketchy’.

Additional sessions judge, Dharmender Rana said that the citizens are the conscience-keepers of the government in any democratic nation. He said, “The right to dissent is enshrined under Article 19 of the Constitution. The freedom of speech and expression includes the right to seek a global audience.”

It also added that “there are no geographical barriers on communication.” Disha was released on a personal bond of 1 lakh and two sureties of similar amounts.
