Chandigarh airport to be named after Shaheed Bhagat Singh

The 28th of September is observed as the birth anniversary of Bhagat Singh, one of the brave freedom fighters of our country. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced on his monthly radio address ”Mann Ki Baat” that the Chandigarh airport will be renamed after freedom fighter Bhagat Singh as a tribute to him.


The Chief Minister of Punjab, Bhagawant Mann welcomed this decision and is happy that a long pending demand of the Punjabis has been fulfilled. Haryana’s Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala has also welcomed the announcement of renaming the Chandigarh airport.
The governments of Punjab and Haryana held a meeting over this issue last month and agreed to rename the Chandigarh international airport after Bhagat Singh. They sent a letter to the Union Civil Aviation Ministry requesting for the procedure to be completed before September 28th, the birth anniversary of Bhagat Singh.
