Candle light march in Kolkata on Fr. Stan Swamy’s 1st death anniversary

Fr Stan Swamy was a tribal rights activist who was arrested in 2020 on terror charges. He was arrested by the National Investigation Agency in connection with the Elgar Parishad Maoist links case.


Around 200 people had taken out a candle march in Kolkata to observe his first death anniversary. Members of various civil society groups like Kolkata Nagarik Sammelan and Paschimbongo Samajik Nyay Manch assembled at the Park Circus Maidan area. They held candles and placards saying ”Stan Swamy, we won’t forget your fight.”
Fr Stan, an octogenarian activist had been suffering from multiple ailments including Parkinson’s disease. He breathed his last in a hospital in Mumbai on July 5,2021.
