Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan has donated a sum of Rs 2 crore to Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Covid-19 care facility at Rakabganj Gurdwara in Delhi. He also helped to arrange for oxygen cylinders. This was disclosed by the President of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management. He referred to Amitabh as a real life hero as he used to call to call him everyday to enquire about the progress of the facility and he got the oxygen concentrators shipped from abroad and personally tracked it to enable them to reach the facility on time. He even told the President not to worry about the money but to save as many lives as possible. This care centre has 300 beds and oxygen concentrators.

Amitabh’s decision to donate directly to a gurdwara instead of donating to the PM-CARES fund has earned him a good name from netizens. Many felt that there was no transparency regarding how the funds were being used and has also invited several controversies ever since its inception. However some celebrities like Akshay Kumar have donated to the PM-CARES fund. The said fund has been set up by the Central Government and registered under the Registration Act, 1908 and was created with the main aim to battle national emergencies like the current pandemic.
