Yoga to combat depression

Depression has become a killer disease of late. US based cardiologist Dr. Indranill Basu Ray suggests that there is no better way to combat depression other than yoga.
While addressing the Yoga Science Conference, held at Bengaluru, he stressed on the power of yoga. According to him, our happiness and our misery are our own productions. If we master control over our senses, without letting them control us, our problems will be solved. He went on to say that a depressed mindset is the one that causes a host of diseases including cancer and heart diseases. He compares it with a porch in front of one’s house where instead of planting flowering trees, if one grows weeds, the weeds will grow instead of flowers. This is new to Western medicine but was emphasised by physicians of ancient India who stressed on the importance of the right mental state for healing.
