Niveditha Srihari and her partner Spandana were designing menswear with an Indo Western touch for almost two years before they decided to open their own store. Tired of explaining their creations and the concept behind the store to everyone, they decided to name it WYCI – Whatever You Call It. Pronounced as Viki, the store has some classy sherwanis and pathanis in linens, silks and fine wool with subtle and intricate designs. The linen pathanis are unique because of the fabric and the pastel shades. They can be teamed up with linen pants or jeans.
Says Niveditha, “We realised that men like to wear Indo western fusion clothing for events like a sangeet or a cocktail party. So we decided to bring in waistcoats with a touch of embroidery, linen sherwanis so they would light to wear and easy on the eye and the pastels were used because like women, men also like to experiment with colour.”
There are also short kurtas to be worn over jeans, in pastel shades with little detailing, bandhgalas with a minimalistic surface embellishment and waistcoats and Nehru jackets. There is in short, a range for every kind of preference.
The colour palette at the store ranges from cream and beige to soft pink and light greens and there are a few in funky colours as well like bright leaf green and emerald green. Prices start at Rs 5000 onwards and from a young person to a 60-year-old with a sense of style, there is something for every guy who likes to dress different. And if you don’t like what is on the racks, you can always opt to have your garment custom made according to your taste.
Being women, the owners couldn’t possibly leave out others of their ilk. They have two racks for bored girlfriends or sisters to check out some trendy evening wear created by different designers not based in Hyderabad. Currently there is a collection by Ashna Kalra on display.
So whatever your tastes, if you are looking for subtle and stylish menswear, check out WYCI.
