Congress President Mrs.Sonia Gandhi has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi asking him to pass the long pending Women’s Reservation Bill in the Lok Sabha. She said that she worked hard to get the bill passed during her tenure and the bill was passed in the Rajya Sabha in 2010.

She recalled in her letter that the idea for suggesting quotas for women first came from her late husband Rajiv Gandhi who had then recommended quotas for women in Panchayats and municipal bodies. However the bill was thwarted by the Opposition in 1989.BJP office bearers said that the party was in favour of the bill as it had many advantages and that it would do its level best to get it passed before 2019.
