Members of the Tamil Nadu State Commission for women will be visiting women’s prisons across the State to gauge the prevailing conditions of the inmates. This will be done in a phased manner. Suggestions from inmates on improvements will be considered.
After the inspection, they will submit a consolidated report to the State authorities. The aspects they will be covering are hygiene, overcrowding, training, legal awareness and availability of legal aid for the inmates. Their main agenda is to improve the condition of the jails and provide inmates with basic human rights and good quality of food and water and proper health care.
