Claire Polosak is set to become the first woman umpire to officiate an Australian cricket match between New South Wales and Australia XI in a one day fixture on Sunday. She will take the field along with veteran umpire Paul Wilson at the Oval.

This 29 year old who earlier was umpire for four matches at the Women’s world Cup earlier this year said that even though she has never played cricket, she was always interested in becoming an umpire. She said that her parents motivated her to achieve her goal and that her father would drive her to Goulburn to do the umpires course. She failed in the umpires exams a few times but it was her determination which spurred her on to continue till she tasted success. We hope to see many more woman umpires in future.
