A research scholar at the University of Montreal, Canada and a native of Thoothukudi was arrested for raising slogans against the BJP government. She travelled on a flight from Chennai to Thoothukudi and found BJP State President Tamilisai Soundararajan on the same flight.
She shouted “Down with the BJP fascist government.” Ms.Sofia was taken to the Pudukottai all women police station and cases were registered against her. She was later produced before a Judicial Magistrate. Her father filed a counter complaint against Ms Soundararajan for verbally abusing his daughter and for issuing death threats. However no case was registered on his complaint. DMK President Stalin condemned the arrest and demanded that Sofia be released immediately.
