The prestigious Kynkyny Art Gallery’s latest show, ‘Empyreal Realms’, features the works of contemporary artist, Naina Maithani Kulkarni. The Bangalore-based artist’s first solo show features a lyrical, meditative collage of enigmatic abstract paintings that transport you from the solid confines of material reality into a place of pure sensation, colour and beingness. Expansive, mirage-like and magnetic, the acrylics on canvas are a freefall into the vast, unmoored expanse of memories, sensations and inner reflections.
Viewing one of her canvasses can feel like travelling into the void. It isn’t an empty dark space though, but a fertile and nourishing crucible where stories are birthed, where we discover the true essence of things and get in touch with our emotional core.
