Farmers of a village near Krishnagiri district performed marriage rituals for two donkeys in a bid to appease the rain God. As per their superstitious beliefs, they performed similar marriages three years ago and received abundant rainfall. The event took place in a village temple.

All the rituals that would be performed for a human wedding were performed by the priest. The male donkey was decorated with a dhoti and a garland and the female donkey was draped in a sari, had anklets on her feet and a garland around it’s neck. Vermilion was applied on the foreheads of both the animals. A chamiana was put up and chairs were provided for all the visitors. The donkeys were then taken in a procession to the beat of drums and bursting of crackers. The villagers are expecting rain in a few days.
