‘Thozhi’ brigade formed

70 women police personnel have been assigned to provide counselling for victims of sexual assault in cases of Pocso. (The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012). The scheme has been christened ‘Thozhi’ and was unveiled by Police Commissioner A. K. Viswanathan in a programme held at the commissioner’s office.
This innovative move is the brainchild of North Chennai Additional Commissioner of Police, R.Dhinakaran. These women personnel will be provided with a pink saree with the Nirbhaya logo embossed on it. There are 35 All Women Police Stations in the city and each station will have two women personnel assigned to the Thozhi brigade. They will provide the victims with physho-social and psychiatric counseling and give them any assistance they require and also keep a track on them. This assistance will be provided right from the time of the registration of the case till the conclusion of the trial.
