Good Earth has launched its first book for children – The Story of Babur. Conceptualized by Simran, Lal CEO of Good Earth, written by Parvati Sharma, illustrated by Urmimala Nag, this book is co-published by Good Earth Publications & Puffin Books India, the largest and the most successful Children’s publishing brand. This exquisite book marks the association of two industry stalwarts.

Narrating the story of the first Mughal emperor of Hindustan, this book is based on the Babur Nama, in which Babur writes about events in his life, and of the people and things he loved or hated.

THE STORY OF BABUR

Writing in an easy, chatty style, Parvati playfully adds in jokes and pranks played by young Babur and yet she retains an emotional thread and talks about the importance of relationships and the duties of a young leader, while imparting historical events in an engrossing story with its share of villains, heroes and battles! Urmimala’s gentle watercolour illustrations are influenced by Mughal miniatures and have been rendered in a modern, dreamy, youthful style.

Writer, Parvati Sharma, who has previously written only for adults, was delighted to explore the world of children’s writing. She said, “I hope children will have as much fun reading this book as I had writing it! Thanks to Good Earth, I was able to experiment with a style of writing I hadn’t tried before, and I really enjoyed it. Unlike adults, children need a book to engage them constantly – there is no indulgence for ‘fluff’, and this forces you, as a writer, to really focus on action, momentum, emotion – all the good stuff. And the Babur Nama itself is a fascinating diary, a testament to curiosity and courage, two qualities we all need, in abundance.”
