The Government of India decided to develop 100 smart cities all over India and this is a step in the right direction. However, the proposed Smart Cities would be really smart only when they have smart mobility.
Hyderabad Bicycling Club (HBC) has already taken up this matter with the Ministry of Urban Development, Government of India & the State Governments. Smart Mobility consists of the transport system where there is lesser focus on fossil fuel driven vehicles and greater focus on encouraging cycling.
Based on this theme HBC is organising a cycling event on the eve of Republic Day,The Great Hyderabad Cyclathon.
Through the unique initiative of the Hyderabad Bicycling Club (HBC), two bike stations with an inventory of 600 bicycles are being run successfully in partnership with the GHMC, Hyderabad Metrorail and TSIIC. To further expand in a big way, HBC tied up with UN Habitat to set up many more Bike Stations with a much larger inventory of bicycles.
