The U.S.Postal Service issued a Deepavali stamp last year making the Indian-American community happy after they campaigned for it for more than two decades.

Ranju Batra, the New York based community activist pursued the goal for 6 years said that celebrations continued and that Diwali was brighter than earlier. She said that every Indian living anywhere in the world was proud about this stamp as it signified universal values of inclusiveness.

Ranju Batra strained every nerve and sinew and literally left no stone unturned in order to achieve her goal. She would carry hundreds of petitions wherever she went,to malls, grocery shops, saloons etc and ask people to sign.Once the sale was announced, it opened the floodgates of demand and on day one, stamps worth $1,70,000,were sold breaking all records.
