The Travancore Devaswom Board approached the Supreme Court saying that around 1000 women had registered their names to visit the temple. Yet it could not implement the order of the Supreme Court which allowed women between 10 and 50 to enter the Sabarimala temple due to acts of hooliganism by protesters and certain political parties in and around the temple premises. It said that in spite of best efforts by the police to provide security to the women pilgrims, they could not visit the temple and had to be escorted back to safety.

It sought more time to implement the order of the court.
