There was high voltage tension in Sabarimala for about 8 hours as the group of 11 women from Tamil Nadu below the age of 50 tried to trek the hills to reach the temple. They faced stiff resistance and they had to take the help of the police to escape from a violent mob.

They were forced to drop their plans and were escorted back to Tamil Nadu by the police. The leader of the group said that they would approach the court and try to make another attempt. A Chennai based outfit Manithi had planned to lead about 50 women pilgrims and sought for protection from the office of the Chief Minister. They even received an assurance that they would be provided with security. However due to the violent mob, they were forced to abandon their plans and return home.
