The Tamil Nadu State government has announced extension of lockdown till August 31. The ban on public and private bus services, malls, cinema halls and theatres will continue. Schools and colleges will also remain closed till the month end. Private offices and establishments will be permitted to function with 75% workforce though many establishments have been asked to encourage their employees to work from home.
The intense lockdown however will continue on all Sundays in the month of August throughout the State. According to Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, the decision to continue the current lockdown was based on the views of of district collectors, public health experts and senior ministers. If the number of cases come down further, the government will consider resuming of bus services and opening of hotels. Independence Day will be celebrated in the State by observing social distancing norms and wearing of masks.
