The Supreme Court had passed an order on October 23rd restricting bursting of crackers for 2 hours from 8 pm and 10 pm on Deepavali and other festivals. The Tamil Nadu government sought for a modification of the order and requested the Court to allow bursting of crackers in the morning between 4.30 and 6.30 am.

As Deepavali is celebrated in the morning in the State. The Supreme Court agreed with the contention and gave permission to the states to select any 2 hours for bursting crackers but in any event it should not exceed a period of 2 hours.
