Few days ago a 10 year old girl died due to snakebite in her school. Students of the school at Government Sarvajana Higher Secondary School at Sulthan Bathery in Wayanad district of Kerala  have launched an agitation demanding dismissal of the staff and teachers responsible for the death of the student. Her death sparked outrage across the State when the fact that she did not get timely medical assistance came to light. The students demanded setting up of a school management committee which had a representation of students as well.
They submitted a memorandum to Minister Kadannapally Ramachandran who paid a visit to the school. He assured them that the issue would be brought to the notice of the government. The students also submitted a memorandum to the Educational Department officials. Meanwhile the police officials who are investigating the case, visited the school and took evidence from the teachers. Statements were also taken from the health officials in the four hospitals. There is a proposal to demolish the old building and construct a new structure in it’s place. A plan for the same has been submitted for approval.
