Spiderman has created history in the Oscars by being the first win for Sony Pictures Animation. Sony Pictures Animation wrote to fans in a tweet after the victory. According to reports, it is the first time since 2011 that the trophy did not go to a film from Disney or Pixar. The movie won against “Incredibles 2”, “Ralph Breaks the Internet”, “Isle of Dogs” and “Mirai”.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse has become the first Marvel film to win an Oscar. The ground-breaking and mind-bending film about multiple spider-heroes from multiple universes gives Sony Pictures its first Oscar for an animated feature. One of the directors has revealed he was about to pay tribute to comic book writer Stan Lee before having his Oscars acceptance speech cut short. Speaking backstage, Persichetti said he was about to thank Lee and Steve Ditko, the co-creators of Spider-Man, for inspiring the filmmakers. Lee, the founder of Marvel, died in November aged 95 while Ditko passed away in June at the age of 90.

In the Animation Short category, Pixar’s “Bao”, written and directed by Domee Shi, took home the honors. The film tells the story of an aging Chinese mother suffering from empty nest syndrome, and she gets another chance at motherhood when one of her dumplings springs to life.
