Chennai city police in association with Ficci Ladies Organisation have launched the ‘ Slum girls empowerment programme’ in the city as part of the wing’s social development and community policing initiatives. Ten slums have been identified in the first phase and training would be given to 50 girls in nursing, home nursing, driving and other skills to help them to find a job.
The slums that were identified are Thideerkuppam, Kothamedu, Kannamapettai, Teynampet, Thomas Nagar, Sunderanagar Kuppam, Thideernagar Kuppam and Mackey’s Garden Kuppam. All the other areas of the city will be covered in a phased manner. Girls were requested to make the most of this opportunity to equip themselves and their families for a better future.
