An all women body named South Indian Film Women’s Association (SIFWA) has been formed for the welfare of women in the Tamil film industry. Women assistants of ace filmmakers like Mani Rathnam, P.C.Sreeram Mysshkin, Sasikumar and Selvaraghavan have teamed up to form the association.
There are umpteen issues that women in the film industry face. For example lack of toilet facility on the sets or shooting locations, payment disparity, denial of opportunities, sexual harassment, no transport facility, no health cover and totally no secure atmosphere. Vaishali Subramanian, the President of the association said that so far 80 members have registered and it is likely to be symbolically launched on May Day.
