Siblings: The relationship with Your Mirror and Your Opposite – Aadarsh And Apoorva Balakrishna

The bond we share with our sibling is like no other – they are our best friends and worst enemies, and also our biggest partners in crime. At times, siblings provide us with our biggest competition, strongest encouragement and remind us of our most embarrassing moments – life without them is boring, uneventful and no fun.

In order to honour this relationship of immense love and hate, Sibling Day is celebrated on April 10 every year. Keeping this celebration going, we went around peeking into some homes, to understand the relationship between these brothers and sisters better. Read ahead to know more about them…

Aadarsh And Apoorva Balakrishna

Aadarsh:

One habit of Apoorva’s that you would change if you could?

She’s extremely disciplined and focused. It’s annoying, you know? But there’s no way in hell she should change that or anything else about her.

How has your relationship changed over the years?

While growing up it was more about me being the overprotective, annoying older sibling, yet managing a friendship. But I think it gradually evolved into us becoming more friends and me being less of a pain in her ass.

What did you most fight about as children/now?

We fought a lot over the television. She wanted to watch her soaps and I wanted to watch sport. And, of course, I’d bully her into doing stuff for me. Like ordering her around household chores et al. And then it became about the boys she was talking to. Now that we’re both married and she lives in the U.S there really isn’t much to fight about sadly!

One thing you can do that your sibling can’t?

I make better Maggi than she can ever hope to make! Most other things, she beats me hollow.

Everything a sibling should be – Loving, caring, artistic, sensitive, fun and extremely annoying, all at the same time.

Apoorva:

What habits does Aadarsh have that you would change if you could?

Aadarsh is an extremely painful shopper. I wish he made quicker decisions while shopping for himself.

Are you closer now or when you were younger?

We were and we still are as thick as thieves. Nothing has changed despite me moving away to another continent.

Did you ever have a crush on any of his friends?

(Laughs) Sibling bonding is incomplete without that.

If Adarsh could be invisible, where would he go and what would he do?

He’d be a ghost around Sachin Tendulkar or Sylvester Stallone observing them from close quarters!

A picky person.
