Shortfalls in Navy

Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman took note of the critical capability shortfalls that the Navy is facing in various platforms. Addressing the ongoing biannual Naval Commanders Conference,she commended the Navy on maintaining continuous deployment of ships, submarines and aircrafts in India’s area of interest, she also noted the shortfalls the Navy is facing in shipborne multi role helicopters and conventional submarines.

She assured the Commanders that these shortcomings would be solved on a war footing. She also acknowledged the efforts of the Navy in deterring piracy attempts off the Gulf of Aden.The Navy had started a new mission to maintain 24/7 surveillance of critical choke points in the Indian Ocean Region due to increased Chinese presence.
