In pursuance of the orders passed by the Supreme Court and the High Court to deal effectively with crimes against women and children, the Government of Tamilnadu has created a separate wing of police .The Additional Director General of Police Arunachalam has taken charge as Head of the wing. It will have three Superintendents of Police. The Home Department issued an order last week and constituted the wing.
The duties of the wing include monitoring and studying patterns of crimes against women and children across the state and to develop strategies for detection and prevention of such crimes. It will also monitor investigations in important cases to ensure successful prosecution. In addition to crimes, it will also deal with female foeticide, female infanticide, acid attacks, molestation, rapes, child lifting and child abuse cases
