All school buses will have to be fitted with CCTV cameras with GPS within a month. The order was passed by the Madras High Court. It applies to all schools including private, CBSE, ICSE etc. This directive was passed based on a Public Interest Litigation filed by an advocate S. Gopi Krishnan.

This is to ensure the safety and security of children who travel by school buses. The buses were also to be maintained and kept in a good working condition. This will prevent any untoward incident from happening inside the buses. It may be recalled that a in a private school in Coimbatore, a bus driver and cleaner were arrested for sexually assaulting a 4 year old girl inside the school bus. If buses are fitted with CCTV cameras, parents could relax and the children would feel safe.
