The third edition of Rajasthan Heritage Week is all set to launch in Jaipur this winter with a fabulous line up of designers & master artisans who together will present The New Face Of Khadi, bringing a new vibrancy and modernity to our not so humble fabric of freedom at Hotel Diggi Palace! Commissioned in 2015 by the Hon. Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Vasundhara Raje, whose State boasts of the highest number of artisans and craftsmen, the Handmade In Rajasthan project set a mandate to popularise the locally woven Khadi and Kota Doria amongst designers all over India and the World.
Featuring internationally renowned designers like Bibi Russell, whose contribution to the revival of handwoven textiles in her native Bangladesh is immeasurable, inspiring the CM to invite her to Jaipur to replicate her success. Rajasthan Heritage Week was conceptualised to promote the heritage textiles of Rajasthan.
The Honourable Chief Minister of Rajasthan Vasundhara Raje said, “I am extremely pleased at the success of RHW which has created a sea-change in the perception and use of Rajasthan Khadi. From International Designers like Bibi Russell to Indian superstars like Rohit Bal, Abraham & Thakore, Rajesh Pratap Singh, Wendell Rodricks, Raghavendra Rathore and Rajasthani designers like Rohit Kamra, Ayush Kasliwal, Pallavi Jaipur, Manish Tibrewal, Swati Vijaivargie, Tripti Bhargava, Himmat Singh, Vidhi Singhania and Rajneeral Babuta, we have seen more designers come in every year, adding credibility and divesrification to the kind of work being done with the fabrics and artisans of Rajasthan making Rajasthan handwoven fabrics the luxury statement of the year.”
Prasad Bidapa, the fashion impresario was instrumental in creating the format for Rajasthan Heritage Week. Bringing on board designers like Abraham & Thakore, Wendell Rodricks, Rajesh Pratap Singh, Rohit Bal, Raghuvendra Rathore, Rohit Kamra, Ajay Kumar, Rimzim Dadu, Hemant Trivedi & Urvashi Kaur. He ensured that Jaipur based designers were well represented. National Award-winning weavers, printers & dyers to showcase their own work as well as the work they do in tandem with top designers from around the country created a new dimension in the collections presented.
The objective is to create an ongoing partnership between 29 designers and 19 master weavers/craftsmen and show the resulting collections in the coming edition. This will ensure a healthy partnering that will help create new directions and new designs in both Kota Doria as well as all varieties of Khadi in cotton, silk & wool.
