Its that time of the year when the harvest festival of Pongal is celebrated. It marks the arrival of the Tamil month of Thai. Sugarcane and Sweet Pongal remain an integral part of the festival. Bundles of sugarcane have been stacked in vegetable shops and many roadside shops as well.

Even though the price of sugarcane is exorbitant this year, hawkers are confident of selling their merchandise as customers are tradition oriented and will pay a high price to procure it.The other tradition of Pongal is making of sweet pongal. Only the medium of cooking has changed from mud pots to pressure cookers. Kolams also adorn the front porches and doorsteps of several homes.
The Ritz team wishes all its readers a Happy Pongal.
