With Vinayagar Chathurthi round the corner, the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board has laid down instructions for immersion of idols. These were in keeping with the protection of water bodies from pollution.

The Board has requested the public to celebrate the festival without polluting the environment and permits only idols made of raw clay, potato flour and sago waste to be immersed. Other idols painted with harmful chemicals will not be allowed to be immersed. Only those painted with natural and water soluble dies will be permitted to be immersed. However the BJP leader Tamilisai Soundararajan condemned the various restrictions imposed by the Pollution Control Board in Tamil Nadu and called for relaxing the restrictions.
