A couple has approached the Supreme Court with a petition against the prohibition of entry of women into mosques on the ground that it is violative of their constitutional rights and dignity. The Pune based couple Zuber Ahmad and his wife Yasmeen have submitted in their petition that there is no such restriction in Mecca and that both men and women can worship there without any discrimination.

The couple had approached several Islamic heads on the issue but didn’t get any positive response from anyone. Hence they had no other option but to file a petition in the Apex Court.
