The UK government has declared in a press conference that the Oxford University will start human testing of the COVID-19 vaccine that they have developed. The Oxford team is led by Professor Sarah Gilbert. The UK government is funding the entire project.
So far it has contributed 20 million pounds to Oxford University and 22 million pounds to another vaccine project done by Imperial College. The London Health Secretary, Matt Hancock said that the vaccine is the best way to defeat the virus and bring down the number of cases in the UK. He also assured that the government would provide all the necessary financial support to build manufacturing capacity for vaccines if they are proven effective. The vaccine will be tested on around 500 volunteers.
