One of the convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case S.Nalini filed a writ petition in the Madras High Court seeking release on parole for six months as she had to make arrangements for her daughter’s marriage.

However the State Government opposed the petition stating that she may escape from lawful custody and moreover the offence committed by her was barbaric and inhuman and also had international ramifications as the petitioner and other co-convicts had killed former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. The State Government also submitted that the petition was devoid of merits and prayed for its dismissal.
