India joins the band of countries where new fathers do not get paid paternity leave. UNICEF has put India in a list for not having a family friendly policy. The UN agency said that almost two thirds of the world’s children under one year live in countries where their fathers are not entitled by law to a single day of paid paternity leave.

They are not even able to spend time with their new born babies. In India, there is a proposal to pass a Paternity Benefit Bill in the next session of Parliament which would allow fathers to get upto three months of paid paternity leave.
