UK is on the way to abandon skirts as a school uniform and shift to trousers instead. This change is due to take place as schools try to cater to the needs of transgender students. Skirts are placed on a list of unacceptable items alongside skinny jeans and facial piercings.

Moreover skirts appeared to be undignified for staff and visitors when girls sit on the floor for assembly and drama classes Numerous schools with a high proportion of Muslim students do not allow skirts on modesty grounds. Some schools however are protesting against this move and have started save the skirts campaigns. Some female pupils also feel that skirts are more comfortable and forcing them to wear trousers could damage their mental health.
