The State Government is not in a position to grant any incentive to Gomathi for winning gold in the Asian Athletics Championship last week due to the enforcement of the model code of conduct . Minister of Fisheries D Jayakumar however said that the government has made a petition for clearance with the Election Commission.
As per the guidelines of the Election Commission, no political party can grant financial assistance to any person in any form. Gomathi had sought financial assistance from the government as she had pinned her hopes on winning a medal at the Olympics. The Government has stated that they have applied for clearance from the Election Commission and would be happy to help once they obtain clearance.
