The iconic Notre Dame Cathedral which is under renovation after the accidental fire will miss Christmas celebration this year for the first time in over two centuries.
The Rector of the Cathedral Patrick Chauvet said that “this is the first time since  the French Revolution that there will be no Midnight Mass at the Cathedral” The celebrations will be held at a new temporary home pending the restoration work, which is a mile away at another Gothic church in Paris called Saint Germain J’ Auxerrois. An accidental fire on April 15th destroyed the lead roof and spire. A wooden platform has been constructed at Saint Germain  church to resemble the Notre Dame Cathedral. The cathedral’s iconic Gothic sculpture “The Virgin of Paris” will be on display at the new annex.
