The Madras High Court had passed orders declaring the niece and nephew of former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa as her legal heirs. Deepa Madhavan and her brother Deepak are now entitled to inherit the ancestral properties of Jayalalithaa. They were declared as class ll heirs as per the Hindu Succession Act.
The Court dismissed a petition filed by an AIADMK functionary to appoint an administrator to look after the properties of Jayalalithaa. The Court also directed the Tamilnadu Government to reconsider their plans to convert the Poes Garden residence of Jayalalithaa to a memorial. Now that orders have been passed in her favour, Deepa wants the government to hand over all Jayalalithaa’s properties to her including the 1,000 acre Kodanad Estate and the grape garden in Hyderabad.
