New Year celebrations in Chennai

Thousands of people gathered at the Marina Beach and the Elliot’s Beach to ring in the New Year. Many churches had midnight services and people offered prayers at midnight. The city was under the surveillance of the city police and Police Commissioner A. K.Viswanathan  personally supervised the bandobust arrangements. Over 15,000/ police were spread across the city to avoid any untoward incidents. The flyovers were closed from 10 p.m.onwards.
More than 200 CCTV cameras and 5 drone cameras were used for surveillance. Vehicle checks were conducted by the police at 368 places on the East Coast Road, Rajiv Gandhi IT Expressway, Sardar Patel Road, GST Road, Anna Salai and EVR Salai. In case of any emergency, people were asked to use the Kavalan SOS App.
