Need of the Hour

You often hear the saying, people deal with people. Well, I’m here to also say, people, want to deal with companies who are doing their bit for the environment. The world is wakening up to the fact that we are indeed living in the climate change scenario predicted by scientists of the last century. And that 2030 will mark the point of no return for climate change as echoed by nearly 100 UN scientists.

Our constant greed for wealth has meant humans have set into motion the potential mass extinction of ALL living species, destruction, and obliteration of nature that has forced us to deal with the biggest global environmental issues of our lifetime.

To tell the world to just STOP, would be near impossible.

So many people, businesses, governments, corporations rely on the world wide web of globalization we have created of development, infrastructure, buildings, agriculture, telecommunication, politics, tourism, aviation, shipping, and trade. Creating a demand for nature that far exceeds the time it takes to regenerate. We are now seeing people seeking leadership and answers to questions never before asked. What are you going to do about our climate change and what is your business or corporation doing to give back to the environment? Already, the world has denounced our plastic obsession from straws to bottles to bags. Veganism is becoming mainstream with more people realizing the intense animal agriculture is cruel and tortuous and one of the biggest producers of global carbon emissions. And travelers are seeking sustainable tourism and experiences. Every single human has the power to make kinder and ethical choices.

And we must start now!

A Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policy is a good start but it must have ethics and purpose, otherwise, it’s just another policy on a piece of paper. Some of the top global companies with successful and transparent social responsibility are IBM, LinkedIn, Apple, TOMS, Virgin Galactic and Ben & Jerry’s. And some of these companies are doing phenomenal things such as dog rescues, community programs, volunteering, fundraising, providing clean energy, camps for children with serious illnesses, women empowerment, conservation, and environmental programs and other philanthropic works (source Smart Recruiters).

But I want to see more being done.

I want to see travelers, businesses and corporations talk opening about how much they travel and the impact on the environment. Be seen by doing the right thing by nature and the environment and your humankind, book your travel with sustainability in mind. As a founder of the world’s eco-conscious Travel Agency, The Sustainable Traveller, Dayana connects conscious travelers and businesses with eco hotels, tours, experiences and ways to reduce carbon emissions and carbon offsetting. By bringing more people like Dayana, we want to educate each traveler on sustainable traveling methods, direct flights, carbon offset, trees planting, eco hotels and tours and providing data and reporting to show their travel footprint.

And ultimately pledge to become a Sustainable Traveller.

If you want to add value to your company CSR and show others you care about the environment, then you must align your travel with an agency that values profit for purpose in every booking.

Does your company have a clear sustainable travel policy?

This piece of note is inspired by the article written by Dayana Brooke, Founder of The Sustainable Traveller, and we do hope that it will inspire individuals & companies to incorporate sustainability into their CSR programs.
