Napkin incinerators to be installed

In a bid to improve hygiene and sanitation in government girls schools, the School Education Department is planning to install 4,161 electrical sanitary napkin incinerators during the next academic year. They will be installed in 1,896 government girls high schools and 1,438 higher secondary schools.

A tender for the same has been floated by the Tamil Nadu Textbook and Educational Services Corporation. A senior official said thata a technical committee has been set up to come up with an effective model. This is a first of its kind initiative by the Education Department. Many Self Help Groups and NGOs’ have been engaged in distribution of sanitary napkins to schools. Teachers have requested for a demonstration as to how to use the vending machines and incinerators.
