Nalini one of the life convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case has sent a petition to the Home Secretary of the government of Tamil Nadu pleading for premature release under Section 161 of the Constitution.She had made a similar representation in 2014 in accordance with the Scheme of Premature Release of life convicts framed by the Tamil Nadu government in 1994.
The Supreme Court has recently asked the Tamil Nadu Governor to consider the mercy petition of Perarivalan, another life convicts in the case.Hence Nalini has filed a fresh petition requesting for premature release.She has withdrawn her writ petition filed last year requesting for 6 months leave to make arrangements for her daughter’s marriage.
