The World Health Organization has taken to social media to spread awareness about misleading claims made regarding garlic and sesame oil. It said that though garlic may be a healthy food loaded with antimicrobial properties, there is no evidence to show that it will prevent people from contracting the coronavirus.

Instead it stressed the need for people to follow good hygiene, cover the mouth while sneezing or coughing, to have good nutritious well cooked food etc. Messages that garlic, curry leaves or cows urine can cure the virus that are circulated in the name of doctors, medical institutions and the health department are all false. As such there is no treatment for the virus and people are given only symptomatic treatment. Dr.Sylvie Brian from WHO said that misinformation has to be tackled as soon as possible.
