More than 2000 cases filed for flouting SC order

The Supreme Court had passed orders restricting bursting of crackers to a 2 hour time limit between 6 and 7 am and 7 to 8 pm. The Tamil Nadu Police registered at least 2,100 cases for bursting crackers outside the time limit prescribed .

The highest number of offenders were in Chennai which saw 344 offenders, A number of political leaders including Tamilisai Soundararajan of the BJP and Nallakannu of CPI recorded their objection to the booking of such cases. They said that bursting crackers should not be viewed as a criminal offence and that the police action in filing cases against the parents and their children was unnecessary.
