More girls adopted in India

Data obtained from the Ministry of Women and Child Development of India shows that out of the 11,649 children adopted between 2015 and 2018 6962 girls and 4687 were boys. This goes to show that girls are preferred when it comes to adoption. With regard to intercountry adoption here again the number of female children was higher at 69% .

Out of the 2310 children placed for adoption 1,594 were girls. This reflects that gender bias and the attitude of people against the girl child has been changing across the country  Sindhu Naik, a member of Adoption Scrutiny Committee State Council of Child Welfare ( Karnataka) said that the urban middle class people prefer female children because they are concerned and aware of the situation of the girl child  This situation may not be the same for villages and small towns.
