The Department of Social Welfare in association with the Tamil Nadu Infrastructure Fund Management Corporation will be setting up modern working women’s hostels to cater to all sections of society. Currently there are 28 working women’s hostels across the State and they are in buildings owned by the Department of Social Welfare. However, these hostels which can accommodate up to 50 women are for the economically backward sections of society.

To cater to the women of all sections, the Government would be constructing modern hostels which would have a creche, a gymnasium, an entertainment area, CCTV cameras and wi fi facilities. Studio apartments would be available for the high income group and two bed sharing rooms would be provided for the middle class women. Those belonging to the economically backward sections would be offered a six bed sharing rooms. A Special Purpose Vehicle would be formed for the maintenance of the hostels.
