MG Road comes alive with Open Street Programme

Bengaluru’s lifeline, MG ROAD, was made traffic free from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm on Sunday, creating a carnival like atmosphere on the main street of the city. The boulevard alongside the metro rail was resplendent with a colourful flea market, street performers, children skateboarding and rollerblading with men on stilts and clowns adding to the festive atmosphere.

In an effort to convert the IT Hub into the country’s next tourism hub, Minister for Tourism RV Deshpande announced at the inaugural that he plans to make many more parts of the city vehicle free for a day in order to encourage local culture.

However, despite the lack of vehicles on the street, it was chock-a-block with block with bodies, a fact that the revellers did not seem to mind considering that had parked their vehicles upto 4 kms away just to get to the hub of Sunday merriment!
