The Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana is a scheme which is for the benefit of women delivering their first child. Under this scheme, a cash amount of Rs 6000/ would be transferred to the bank account of the beneficiary in three installments if they meet certain conditions like early registration of pregnancy , having at least one ante natal check up and registration of child birth.
Almost 61% of women registered under the scheme received the full amount. However researchers say that the scheme has failed to reach out to many women. A study found that there was inadequate awareness as many people were not aware of the scheme. Moreover several factors like production of their husbands Aadhaar card resulted in excluding women who were single mothers or who were living with men they were not married to or even those staying in their natal home.
